Post-Revolution Governments

After new elections General Alvaro Obregon took the oath as president of Mexico on December 1, 1920.

July 20, 1923. The retired General Francisco Villa, was assassinated at Parral, Chihuahua.

December 5, 1923. A revolt broke out in support of Adolfo de la Huerta against the government of Obregon, but was put down after being fought in several states throughout the country.

August 31, 1925. The Banco de Mexico (Bank of Mexico) was founded.

January 1927. The Cristero Rebellion broke out as a result of problems between the Church and the State.

General Obregon decided to stand as a candidate for election to the presidency again, on June 26, 1927.

July 15, 1928. The candidate-elect, General Alvaro Obregon was assassinated during a banquet at a restaurant in the San Angel district of Mexico City.

March 2, 1929. Several military leaders rose in armed rebellion in support of General Jose Gonzalo Escobar, but were defeated in under three months.

June 19, 1929. The religious question was solved and the Cristero rebellion came to an end.

Engineer Pascual Ortiz Rubio became constitutional president on February 5, 1930 and resigned on September 3, 1932. General Abelardo L. Rodriguez became interim president.

April 24, 1938. General Saturnino Cedillo revolted in the State of San Luis Potosi against Cardenas. After a few military engageme nts Cedillo was defeated and killed.

March 18, 1938. Cardenas signed a decree expropiating the holdings of foreign oil companies, which became state property.

After the sinking of two Mexican tankers, Mexico declared itself at war with the Axis (Germany, Italy - and Japan) on May 22, 1942. Squadron 201 of the Mexican Air Force was sent to fight in the Philippines.

The lawyer Miguel Aleman Valdez became president on December 1, 1946.
