Benito Juarez and Lerdo de Tejada

President Juarez established the Supreme Power in the capital on July 15, 1867 and was elected to a third term of office.

Congress elected Benito Juarez for a fourth term in October 1871.

Opposing the re-election of Benito Juarez, General Porfirio Diaz and other military leaders proclaimed the La Noria Plan in Oaxaca, revolting on November 8, 1871. General Sostenes Rocha defeated the rebels.

July 18, 1872. President Benito Juarez died. By law, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, Sebastian Lerdo de Tejada, became acting president and was elected on December 1.

The first railroad in Mexico, linking the capital to Veracruz was officially inaugurated on January 1, 1873.

September 1, 1875. President Lerdo de Tejada was reelected.
